Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education - K-12 Teaching Licensure

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education at UNC Greensboro prepares future K-12 art teachers who are aware of the needs of a global and diverse society, highly knowledgeable in their field, committed to diversity and multiculturalism, and open to new ideas and adaptable to change. Upon completion of the program, students will have advanced art studio and technical skills; content knowledge of art history, education, art education theory, and pedagogy from historical and contemporary perspectives; and have had quality preparation in general education. In addition, the program aims to foster respect and acceptance of diversity in a creative, productive, and peaceful society while shaping the minds of the next generation.

BFA in Art Education Program Distinctions

UNC Greensboro’s BFA Licensure Program in Art Education is dedicated to diversifying the field. The program supports BIPOC students through culturally responsive curriculum, teaching, advising, and student placements.

Accreditations & Affiliations include the National Association of Schools Art & Design.

Housed in the Gatewood Studio Arts Building, The School of Art is a state of the art facility with:

The Art Education Student Experience

In UNCG’s BFA Licensure Program in Art Education, students form close friendships and strong support networks and receive attentive mentorship from faculty.

Alumni often return for lectures and workshops as supervising teachers for practicum and student teachers.

Students complete 60+ hours of practicum experience in public school classrooms and in UNCG’s Summer Art and Design Institute.

After Graduating with your BFA in Art Education

Graduates of UNCG’s BFA Licensure Program in Art Education gain placements in art teaching positions in North Carolina public, private, and charter schools, many of them immediately upon graduation. The program also prepares graduates for masters programs and museum- and community-based art education careers.

Frequently asked questions about the Bfa in Art Education

Yes! There is a requirement to student teach with this program. Our graduates are well prepared for art education careers and we typically have close to 100% job placement for our graduates every year.

Art Education students are not required to have a studio art concentration but are encouraged to choose an area of emphasis in one of the following categories: New Media & Design, Painting, Photography, Printmaking & Drawing, Sculpture & Ceramics.

An Art Education degree builds a strong foundation in visual communication, project management, and public speaking. Top alternative careers include museum education, instructional design, curriculum development, gallery or arts administration, and corporate training.
