The Master’s in Birth-Kindergarten in Education and Development-Early Childhood and Advanced Teaching Licensure Program at UNCG prepares students for leadership roles in education and community-based settings to serve young children with and without disabilities, ages birth to five, and their families. The program is for students with a Standard Professional I or initial license who seek education in early childhood leadership and an advanced teaching license.
The Department of Specialized Education Services and the Department of Human Development and Family Studies administer this synchronous online program.
Online Master’s in Education – Advanced Teaching Licensure Program Distinctions
Experienced faculty will mentor the students in the Master’s in Birth-Kindergarten Education and Development-Early Childhood and Advanced Teaching Licensure program. National rankings include:

The Online Master’s in Education – Early Childhood Advanced Teaching Licensure Student Experience
Students in the Birth-Kindergarten Interdisciplinary Studies in Education and Development (BKISED) Early Childhood Leadership and Advanced Teaching Licensure Program will can complete the online, synchronous degree in as little as two years. Once in the program, students will:
- Complete requirements for an advanced (M) teaching license.
- Be educated by faculty from the Specialized Education Services and Human Development and. Family Studies in this innovative, interdisciplinary program.
- Be eligible for the T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood® North Carolina Scholarship Program for qualified individuals.
After Graduating with a Master’s in Education – Early Childhood Advanced Teaching Licensure
Graduates of the program are prepared for a variety of careers. These careers include:
- Early childhood teachers
- Early interventionists
- Resource and referral specialists
- Child care consultants
- Family advocates
- Program directors/administrators
- Technical assistance providers
- Community college instructors.
