UNC Greensboro’s Bachelor of Science in Computer Science is a popular and thriving program, one of the largest in the state. Despite its large size, the program maintains modest class sizes and a strong tradition of one-on-one faculty mentorship.
The Data Science and Big Data concentration allows students to focus their studies on the in-demand field of data science. You take courses on the theories, algorithms, and technologies to develop analytical systems for disparate, complex, and small or large-scale datasets.

- Most computer science classes have a strong hands-on component with projects and creative exercises.
- Students complete a significant senior capstone project.
- Courses use a variety of programming languages, with introductory courses using Java and further coursework that can include C++, Python, PHP, and other languages.
- A variety of platforms, including both Windows and Unix/Linux machines, are used in coursework.
- You can get involved in department-led clubs, including the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the Information Security Club, the Robotics Club, and the STARS Computing Corps.

- Students completing the Data Science and Big Data concentration will have learned the skills necessary to tackle a wide variety of data-focused scientific, social, and environmental challenges.
