The Bachelor’s in Information Science (BSIS) in Information Analytics at UNC Greensboro prepares students to interpret and use data to uncover insights, support decisions, and improve outcomes. This program combines data analytics, information science, and human-centered problem solving.
Bachelor’s in Information Analytics Program Distinctions
Rather than focusing solely on statistics or business intelligence, the BSIS in Information Analytics teaches students how information is collected, organized, analyzed, and transformed into actionable knowledge for organizations and communities.
- The BSIS program is one of only two offered among North Carolina public universities.
Analytics Through an Information Science Lens
Many analytics programs are housed in business, mathematics, or computer science departments. UNCG’s Information Analytics concentration, which is housed in the School of Education, is rooted in information science, meaning students learn not only how to analyze data but also how to:
- Curate and organize information
- Evaluate information quality
- Manage information systems
- Communicate findings to diverse audiences
- Understand how people use information to make decisions
This broader perspective helps graduates bridge the gap between technical analysis and organizational needs.

“Information Science speaks to students who want to work for nonprofits and be changemakers in their community.”
– Dr. Lisa O’Connor, department chair
The Student Experience in Information Analytics
UNCG’s Information Analytics concentration teaches students how to work with the entire information lifecycle—from collecting and organizing data to analyzing, visualizing, and communicating results. Graduates develop both technical and strategic skills, making them valuable contributors in organizations that rely on data-informed decision-making.
Students will have the opportunity to engage in internships and have access to faculty mentors. A capstone project featuring original research comes near the conclusion of the degree program.
Bachelor’s In Information Science AFFILIATED MINORS
The College of Arts and Sciences offers a minor in Videogaming and Esports that pairs well with this degree. Students complete one required course and 12 hours of electives in courses like Intro to 3D Animation and Fandom and Religion: Rituals, Texts, Communities.
Post-Graduation with a bachelor’s in Information Analytics
Students graduate with expertise in data analysis and visualization, but also with a deep understanding of information systems, user needs, and how organizations turn information into action.
Potential career paths include:
- Data Analyst
- Data Scientist
- Database Designer
