School Library Media Supervisor 078 Licensure

UNC Greensboro’s Licensure in School Library Media Supervisor (078) add-on program is for students pursuing school system-level library professions.

This licensure will qualify them for the role of Library Supervisor, Directors of Library Media Service, Directors of Media and Technology, and similar careers. Over the course of completing nine credit hours, they will become experts in areas of administration, supervision and management, and curriculum development.

To qualify for the licensure, candidates must have worked for three years as a school-based librarian by the end of the course. This add-on that is available to students who are eligible to hold the Media Coordinator (076) licensure with the additional requirements of nine graduate semester hours of credit in administration, curriculum development, or supervision and three years of acceptable experience as a school librarian.

The Licensure in School Library Media Supervisor Program Distinctions

The 078 School Library Supervisor licensure program emphasizes the rapidly changing library and information field and prepares students for positions of leadership in school districts and other information centers.

The Licensure in School Library Media Supervisor Student Experience

Coursework for School Library Media Supervisor (078) licensure is available to applicants who already hold an M.L.I.S. degree, a School Library Media Coordinator license, and at least three years of experience as a school librarian.

They may choose to take the course in person or online. This lets them take advantage of UNC Greensboro’s synchronous virtual learning environment with engaging, collaborative opportunities for discussion.

Students will interact with a diverse, engaged, and supportive faculty dedicated to bringing real-world experience and ideas to the classroom. Candidates may request to collaborate on the faculty’s research work for first-hand experience in current social and educational issues.

• Educational Implication of Earning and Developmental Theory
• Supervision: School System Library Media Programs

Applicants must also complete the Specialty Area Praxis exam (5411) and achieve a passing score of 145.

Qualifying For School Library Media Supervisor Licensure

All LIS licensure candidates must first have an M.L.I.S. or M.L.S. Requirements for completing the program include:

• Have three years of experience as a school-based librarian by the end of the course work.
• Hold a 076 license as an SLMC (School Library Media Coordinator).
• Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Score 3 or above on all teaching dispositions.

After Graduating From the Licensure in School Library Media Supervisor Program
