Online 077 Licensure in Instructional Technology

Seated behind desks, LIS students engage in a group discussion. In the background, a large screen displays a breakdown of multijurisdictional libraries in North Carolina.

The 077 licensure in instructional technology concentration is for students who already have an advanced degree in education or their M.L.I.S./M.L.S., and desire to work as instructional technology directors, facilitators, or coordinators in the North Carolina Public School System.

Candidates may earn Instructional Technology licensure by completing 18 credit hours of specialized coursework, including a practicum. They will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to become leaders in instructional technology, supporting meaningful technology integration and high-impact practices at the classroom, school, and district levels.

Instructional Technology Online Student Experience

Students will experience a synchronous online learning environment where instruction is delivered using engaging collaborative opportunities for discussion.

They will meet regular with heterogenous, engaged, and supportive faculty dedicated to bringing real-world experience and ideas to the online classroom. They will engage with peers and build their professional learning community in an online-learning environment.

Coursework includes:

  • Emerging Technology Trends
  • Assistive Technology for Inclusive Education
  • Instructional Design
  • Capstone Experience in Instructional Technology

Candidates who do not have prior teaching experience or a current teaching license must complete an additional course, LIS 692: Field Experience in School Library Media. This requirement brings the total to 21 credit hours for those students.

After receiving YOUR 077 LICENSURE

Educators with their 077 licensure are eligible for positions working with instructional technology in North Carolina public school systems. They may work across K-12 as instructional technology directors, facilitators, or coordinators.

The U.S. Department of Education requires that all higher education institutions advise students as to whether their curriculum provides them with the eligibility to apply for a professional license and/or certification in the state for which they plan to practice. As such, please review UNC Greensboro’s status by state for the initial teaching license. You should note whether the program either “meets”, “does not meet”, or if there “has not been a determination” of the program’s status in the state for which you plan to practice.
