Bachelor's in Liberal and Interdisciplinary Studies - Latin American and Caribbean Studies

Explore the histories, cultures, and contemporary issues shaping Latin America and the Caribbean. The Latin American and Caribbean Studies concentration in UNC Greensboro’s Bachelor of Liberal and Interdisciplinary Studies degree examines the diverse peoples, societies, and traditions of Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. Through an interdisciplinary curriculum, you’ll study the region’s history, politics, economics, belief systems, languages, arts, and social issues while developing the global perspective and intercultural skills needed in today’s interconnected world.

The Latin American and Caribbean Studies concentration is one of six concentrations available through the International and Global Studies (IGS) program. Our interdisciplinary, liberal arts approach promotes skills in research, critical thinking, and communication that ensure students can analyze, evaluate, and express positions on international and global issues and the complexity and interconnectedness of world regions and populations.

Latin American and Caribbean Studies Concentration Highlights

• Explore Latin America and the Caribbean through an interdisciplinary lens. Study the histories, cultures, politics, economies, languages, and societies that shape Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean.
• Examine a region of growing global importance. Analyze issues such as migration, development, social justice, political change, environmental sustainability, and international relations.
• Develop regional expertise and intercultural skills. Strengthen your research, communication, critical thinking, and cross-cultural understanding while exploring diverse perspectives and experiences.
• Customize your studies across disciplines. Build a broad understanding of the region through coursework in history, political science, geography, economics, anthropology, languages, literature, religion, film, and cultural studies. Courses span more than 30 departments and programs across campus.
• Join a program recognized for academic excellence and global engagement. Students regularly earn membership in Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Beta Delta, complete UNCG’s Global Leadership Program, and compete for prestigious opportunities such as Fulbright research and teaching awards and U.S. State Department Critical Language Scholarships.

THE Latin American and Caribbean Studies STUDENT EXPERIENCE
