Photo of a firefighter fighting fireFire safety is a part of RA Training this week – and a demonstration will provide them and the campus community insight into safety measures.

The live fire demo will be Friday, August 9, at 3 p.m. on the EUC service drive, between Kaplan Commons and the Jackson Library tower. Anyone in the campus community who’d like to attend is welcome.

Attendees will see firsthand how quickly a fire builds, the amount of smoke it creates and the heat it puts off. There will be two small structures built and furnished to mimic a residence hall rooms; one having a fire sprinkler head piped in and the other without. “The fact that our Residence Halls are sprinklered is a safety feature that will be seen in a whole new light with this demonstration,” notes Erin Price-Erwin, Fire and Life Safety Manager, UNCG Environmental Health and Safety.Photo of the layout for the fire demo

Engine 5 with the Greensboro Fire Department will be on site to pump to the sprinklered room and to then extinguish them both.
