The Bryan School’s Economics programs provide students with an understanding of economic principles, concepts, and institutions, preparing them with the ability to analyze a wide variety of business and public policy issues. The BA degree builds on a comprehensive liberal arts education in the sciences, humanities, and arts, developing the student’s ability to apply economic reasoning and analysis to issues of concern in economics, public and social policy, and other disciplines in the humanities and social sciences.

Program Distinctions

  • World-class faculty members have earned PhDs and previously taught at institutions including Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, Johns Hopkins, and Duke.
  • More than 80 percent of undergraduate economics classes are taught by faculty with doctoral degrees.
  • Many of our faculty worked as professional economists before coming to UNC Greensboro and continue to do applied research in their fields of expertise.
  • The Accelerated Master’s Program (AMP) in Economics allows highly qualified students to begin taking graduate courses while finishing their BA or BS degree.
  • Accreditations and affiliations include the National Association for Business Economics (NABE) and Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB).

The Student Experience

  • Faculty members are accessible to you and infuse their research into the classroom.
  • You can choose to enrich your undergraduate experience through involvement with UNC Greensboro’s NABE Student Chapter (National Association of Business Economists), IOTA Chapter of Omicron Delta Epsilon – Economics Honor Society, or prepare for the job market through internships for academic credit.
  • There are a variety of other student clubs available, such as Alpha Kappa Psi, Beta Gamma Sigma, National Millennial Community, North Carolina Sales Institute, Spartan Investment Club, and THREADS. 
  • Events such as Company Spotlights introduce you to the local business community and provide an overview of available internship and employment prospects. Graduates can apply to the MA in Applied Economics and learn the statistical and econometric techniques to enter the job market on a professional career track.

After Graduation

  • Graduates of this program have gone on to careers with the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Federal Reserve Board, Research Triangle Institute, AIG Financial, and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
  • Potential career paths include bachelor’s level data analyst, banking manager, statistician, research analyst, financial analyst, financial adviser, and asset management supervisor.
  • Students have the flexibility to choose to enter the job market after graduation or prepare for an advanced degree such as law school, medical school, or graduate economics programs.
