The Spartans are preparing to take on their first opponents in the 2023 Ingles Southern Conference (SoCon) Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships, which runs March 2-6.
Women’s basketball earned the No. 4 seed and will play the No. 5 seed Mercer on Thursday, March 2 with a tip off at 1:15 p.m.
The two squads split the season series with the Spartans winning in Macon, Georgia, on January 5 by a score of 72-68, and the Bears won, 65-46, on Feb. 4 in Greensboro. Mercer is the two-time defending SoCon Tournament champions.
The men’s basketball team is the No. 3 seed and will take on the No. 6 Wofford Terriers on Saturday, March 3 with a start time of 8:30 p.m.
The Spartans will be trying for their third SoCon tournament title in the last six seasons. Wofford is 5-3 against UNCG in SoCon tournament play, with the squads’ last meeting in the 2019 title game, which the Terriers won 70-58.
Games will be played at Harrah’s Cherokee Center in Asheville.
