UNC Greensboro’s commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and equity is being recognized by community leaders in the North Carolina Piedmont. Dr. Andrea Hunter, professor of human development and family studies (HDFS), is a recipient of the Triad Business Journal’s third annual Leaders in Diversity Awards.
This award recognizes people who have gone above and beyond to bolster equality across all areas of diversity, including age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, and socio-economic backgrounds.
She will receive the award at a ceremony on June 21.
Hunter joined UNCG as an associate professor in 1999 and has been active on committees within the department, the School of Health and Human Sciences (HHS), and the University as a whole. That same year, she became director of the Family Research Center. In 2009, she chaired HDFS’ Diversity and Inclusive Goals Committee and was appointed director of the HHS Office of Diversity and Inclusion in 2012. In 2020, she accepted the position of Chancellor’s Fellow for Campus Climate.
