What will the Bryan Day MBA do for me?

As a Bryan MBA graduate, you'll find yourself better equipped to meet the increasing demands on managers in a globally competitive environment. You will have developed relevant conceptual frameworks and the complementary technical skills necessary for effective decision-making. Ultimately, you will be a better thinker, team member, problem solver, and communicator.

The Bryan Day MBA welcomes applications from students with little or no work experience and with undergraduate degrees in any area of study (not just business!). The "My" Bryan MBA means that you will be encouraged to develop focus areas and concentrations in your own personal area of interest. You can focus on areas such as marketing, finance, information systems, human resources, operations management, entrepreneurship, international business, supply chain & logistics management, and organization behavior. Options also exist to pursue interest areas outside the regular MBA curriculum and even outside the Bryan School if this helps you meet your personal career goals.

Are all courses offered during the day?

Yes. Courses are offered weekdays to accommodate students studying full-time. In general, there is still enough flexibility built-in to the day course load to enable full-time students to pursue other opportunities, such as graduate assistantships, internships or part-time employment. Most of your classes will meet twice a week between 12 noon and 5:00pm Monday through Thursday.

Can I keep working while I earn my degree?

Yes, if you must. The challenge of maintaining a full-time schedule while working part-time is often more complicated than even the most dedicated students expect. Full-time study and full-time work is not an option. We recommend that you work no more than 18-20 hours per week while pursuing the Bryan Day MBA.

Will I be learning on my own, or as a part of a team?

You will soon discover that one of the major benefits of the Bryan Day MBA program is your interaction with your fellow students. You will be in class and work in teams with bright and enthusiastic colleagues who share your love of learning and enthusiasm for the subject matter of each class. Everyone in the program brings something that enriches our collective educational experience.

You will find less teamwork in the basic level courses than in foundation and strategic level courses. Examples of group work include case analyses, presentations, management teams, as well as research and study groups.

How are classes structured?

The Bryan Day MBA program immerses you in a variety of learning formats: including experiential learning using case studies, projects with area firms, and interaction with executives from a variety of industries, lecture and discussion, and group projects and presentations. The curriculum provides you with a solid foundation in general management practice, and gives you the opportunity to develop depth or breadth in subject areas that support your career goals.

Are most other students just out of college, like me?

The majority of your student colleagues have recently graduated from their undergraduate institutions. They share your perspective and familiarity with the campus lifestyle. You will often find the discussion before, during and after class focused on the unique challenges you face as soon-to-be job seekers in the ever-changing workplace. In addition to the intellectual stimulation this level of day to day interaction affords, many students find the connections they make at the Bryan School to be an exceptionally rewarding networking opportunity, as well.

What is Base Camp?

A four-day experience designed to get you off to a great start by providing you with technical tools and leadership development experiences. Base Camp also allows you to meet your fellow students and professors before the start of classes.

What sort of academic background do I need?

The Bryan Day MBA program is designed for qualified students from any academic background. Prospective students must hold a four-year degree from an accredited college or university. Although the degree itself can be in any discipline, students must also have completed a college-level algebra course. Basic computer literacy is also required.

When can I enroll?

Pending successful admission, students can only enroll in the fall for the Bryan Day MBA. UNCG has rolling registration, so once you have applied and been successfully admitted, you can meet with your MBA advisor and select your courses. (The priority deadline for applications is March 1. However, you are encouraged to apply as early in the year as possible.)

When do classes start?

The day program admits students to start in fall (approximately the 3rd week of August). Classes follow the academic calendar of the Bryan School of Business at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. View Academic Calandars.

Base Camp takes place before classes.

How long does it take to complete the day program?

The MBA program itself is 48 credit hours, 9 of which is elective coursework. Because all students begin the Bryan Day MBA program in the fall, all required courses are offered in sequence each semester. You will be able to complete the Bryan Day MBA after 21 months of full-time study.

How much is tuition?

Tuition varies based on how many courses you take per semester and whether you are in-state or out-of-state. For the 2009-10 academic year, tuition & fees for an in-state student taking 12 credits per semester is $3,184. The out-of-state tuition for 12 credits is $8,924. Where will I live?

On-campus housing is available on a limited basis for those students who request it through the Office of Housing and Residence Life. Most Bryan graduate students who live on campus prefer the Tower Village, a suite-style residence facility.

Is the Program Accredited?

Yes. The Bryan School of Business and Economics is accredited at both the graduate and undergraduate level by the AACSB International -The American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business.

What are the admissions requirements?

Complete admissions requirements are detailed in the online enrollment application, available here. To enroll, you'll need:

What do I need to cover in the personal essay?

We ask you to submit a one to two page personal essay telling us a little about yourself. Questions you may wish to answer, include: What special characteristics and experiences might you bring to the classroom and your fellow classmates? Why do you want to pursue the Bryan MBA? Why do you think it would be a good fit for you? What do you have to offer the professors who teach in the Bryan MBA program and what do you have to offer the other students who will go through the Bryan MBA program with you? What makes you the person you are? What life experience or experiences have been the most important in your personal development? Finally, is there anything special we should know about your application credentials -for example, is your final GPA a little lower than it could be due to some personal event that occurred while you were in your undergraduate program? Tell us why, or let us know about other special considerations you would like us to know about you. Please note: you are under no obligation to tell us anything you do not wish us to know.

What is the TOEFL and who should take it?

TOEFL stands for the Test of English as a Foreign Language. The test is required for all international students to prove their proficiency in English. If a student received their undergraduate degree from an accredited American university, they are waived from taking the TOEFL.

The Admissions Committee looks for a minimum TOEFL of 213 (electronic) or 550 (paper) but prefers a higher TOEFL score in general. For students who do not achieve a strong TOEFL score, the Committee might recommend admission to the MBA Program but with the requirement that a student complete the INTERLINK English as a Second Language Program that is available here at UNCG. What is provisional admission?

A provisionally admitted student takes the same courses, does the same work, and has the same opportunities and responsibilities as a regularly admitted MBA student. The provisional admission does require that a student make a clear demonstration of ability and commitment to success in his or her first semester of study. While almost all provisionally admitted students meet with success; a weak performance in the first semester will result in a provisionally admitted student not being allowed to continue in the program.

Does the Bryan MBA Program Offer Career Services?

Yes. The Office of Bryan Graduate Career Services offers the full range of career services to our students including career development workshops, career counseling, internship opportunities, and opportunities to meet with recruiters.
