UNCG Compliance Hotline

University of North Carolina Greensboro is committed to operating with integrity in full compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and policies. The University sets expectations of the highest standards of ethical conduct. The University of North Carolina Greensboro Compliance Hotline serves as a confidential channel for employees to report or seek guidance on possible compliance issues.

Individuals should share their questions, concerns, suggestions, or complaints with a university administrator who can address them properly. In many cases the individual's supervisor is in the best position to address an area of concern.

If an individual is not comfortable speaking with the supervisor, or is not satisfied with the supervisor's response, individuals should take their concerns to the offices listed below that will investigate and/or address the concern as appropriate.

Who should use the Compliance Hotline?

University of North Carolina Greensboro employees who have concerns of any kind stemming from possible noncompliance with federal, state, or local laws or regulations, university policies, errors or irregularities in UNCG's financial accounting practices or policies, and do not feel that they can follow the suggested channels above, can report them through the UNCG Compliance Hotline. Such concerns can be raised anonymously and without any fear of retaliation.  

Note:  if you suspect that a UNCG employee is engaged in improper activities, you should know that UNCG Human Resources has policies that can show you how to “Blow the Whistle.

When should I contact the Compliance Hotline?

Below are some sample compliance concerns and situations that might prompt a UNCG Compliance Hotline Report:

Examples of compliance concerns include but are not limited to:

  • "One of my co-workers may be improperly using university funds."
  • "I feel threatened by actions in the workplace."
  • "This transaction appears to be a violation of university policy and/or federal regulations."
  • "My supervisor appears to have a conflict of interest."
  • "One of my peers may have falsified research results."
  • Fraud and financial improprieties
  • Research misconduct
  • Harassment or Discrimination 
  • Conflict of interest
  • Breaches of confidentiality
  • Inappropriate use of university resources
  • Abuse of persons or animal
  • Suspected abuse of a Juvenile (anyone under the age of 18)

How Can I Report a Possible Violation?

Select one of the three methods for reporting provided below and follow the directions provided. Whatever method you choose, please be specific in your report, including the names of the institution and employees involved, dates of occurrences, and law or policy in question.

What Happens When I Submit a Report?

Once a report is submitted, it is promptly reviewed (normally within one business day) to determine what further steps should be taken. The scope of the review and which official(s) will be involved will depend on the facts and nature of the case. Each report will be handled with the utmost care and in a timely manner. If you provided contact information, you may be contacted for additional information. You will be notified about the outcome at the conclusion of the review process.

You have chosen to submit your report by phone. Please be prepared to include as much detailed information as possible, including locations, dates and times, detailed descriptions and the identification of the individuals involved. When reporting by phone you have the option to submit your report with or without your personal contact information. If you choose to provide your contact information, please be prepared to include your name, e-mail address and phone number and preferred method of contact.
