As we enjoy a holiday break this week, remember that Thanksgiving is more than a turkey feast with family and friends. It’s a time to intentionally give thanks for all the things we are lucky to have.
Here are some examples of the many reasons why students and alumni place UNC Greensboro’s community, resources, faculty, and staff at the top of their lists.
Peers

“It’s intimidating coming to college, but the people I’ve met along the way have made a big impact on me. My peers and advisors have helped me find my purpose. Being around like-minded people brings out the best parts of you and helps you grow.”
– Elijah Young, international and global studies major, Humanities at Work intern
Opportunities

“My one word to describe UNCG is ‘opportunity.’
No matter where you are, there are people looking out for you and pushing you forward.”
– Janae Wofford, chemistry major and 2025 Goldwater Scholar
Resources
“I knew that I wanted to get into something involving physical well-being, enabling people to move and live healthy lives. Going to UNCG with its large web of resources, and the helpful advice of professors, helped me focus my goals.”
– Jason Baity ‘15, prosthetic clinician

Preparation

“I felt very supported and prepared going into a Broadway audition thanks to the help of UNCG.”
– Dasia Amos, dance major
Advising

“Advising is the number one advantage to going to school here. I wouldn’t be where I am without it.”
– Coren O’Brien, pre-med student
Learning Environment

“UNCG gives you the space to be yourself, provides you the opportunities to creatively be who you are and be with like-minded individuals. People here are collaborative rather than competitive. That takes so much pressure off.”
– Jacob Sterling, photography major
Career & Professional Development
“Without Career & Professional Development, I would not have a full-time role prior to graduation. They have set me up for success through all of their career coaching and help with my résumé.”
– Ashanti Evans, marketing major

Support for Veterans

“It was an easy transition to get back and finish my bachelor’s degree. And I was able to get a veteran’s scholarship. I’m so grateful to UNCG for providing a place for veterans like me to study.”
– Jose Pineda, kinesiology major
Faculty Encouragement

“Accepting the scholarship to UNCG was the best decision I’ve ever made. The faculty here root for your success – even after you leave their class.
– Renee Ejindu, biochemistry major
Community

“JSNN is a great place with many international students. The school became an absorber for my initial culture shock. There’s such a strong sense of community here.
– Omiya Ayoub, Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering doctoral candidate
Alumni Network
“I really appreciate the opportunities offered to be back at UNCG and to be a force there. Any opportunity to engage with UNCG students and alumni, I raise my hand.”
– Vivian Dennis ’85
