Policy on Approaching Foundations
In order to avoid potential conflicts with the university development office, faculty in the College of Arts and Sciences who intend to submit a proposal for research funding to a foundation should take the following steps:
- Discuss their plans with the Associate Dean for Research before contacting the foundation.
- If it appears that the approach is properly viewed as a gift, or if it involves one of the foundations from which the University solicits gifts, the Associate Dean will refer the faculty member to the corporate and foundation relations contact in the development office.
- If the approach is for research and does not involve a foundation with which the University is working on a gift solicitation, faculty should follow the same “green folder” process that obtains with all other research proposals.
