Fringe Benefits, Budget Rates for 2009-2010

Under normal circumstances, use a total fringe benefit rate of 28% for faculty and .3% for enrolled students and 7.95% for students not enrolled. Funders sometimes require a more precise breakdown of benefits; in such cases please consult the information below.
  • Full-time employees paid 100% by grant:
    • Social Security FICA 7.65% or
    • Employment Disruption / Discontinuation Reserve. This is .003 or .3% times the total base salaries.
    • Optional Retirement 11.46%
    • Medical Insurance* $346.42/month per employee ($4,157/yr)
  • Full-time employees paid partially by grant:
    • Social Security FICA 7.65%
    • State Retirement 8.14% or
    • Employment Disruption / Discontinuation Reserve. This is .003 or .3% times the total base salaries.

    The off-campus rate is applicable in the following cases:
    • For all activities performed in facilities not owned by the institution and to which rent is directly allocated to the project(s)
    • Actual costs will be apportioned between on-campus and off-campus components
    • Each portion will bear the appropriate rate
