Working with Us > Stephanie Daniel, Ph.D., Research Associate Professor, Associate Director

Stephanie Daniel, Ph.D. completed her graduate training as a clinical psychologist at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and an APA approved internship in child and adolescent clinical psychology with emphasis on interdisciplinary training at the University of Alabama in Birmingham and the Civitan International Research Center.  Dr. Daniel was a member of the faculty in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at Wake Forest University School of Medicine from 1997 to 2007.  Since 2007, Dr. Daniel has served as a Research Associate Professor and Associate Director for the Center for Youth, Family, and Community Partnerships at UNCG with an adjunct faculty appointment in the Department of Psychology at UNCG. Dr. Daniel has been a principal investigator and co-investigator on multiple research projects funded by the National Institute of Mental Health, the National Institute of Child Health and Development, and the National Science Foundation.  In addition, Dr. Daniel serves as part of the evaluation team for the School Health Alliance in the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools and has helped to develop other school-based mental health initiatives within this school system.  Dr. Daniel’s research has included longitudinal studies of suicidal behaviors and psychiatric risk factors among adolescents, and of psychiatric and psychosocial differences between youth with and without reading difficulties; the development and implementation of cognitive-behavioral interventions for suicidal adolescents experiencing depression and substance abuse problems; and the study of influences of work and family factors on child emotional and behavioral development.   Dr. Daniel has expertise in child and adolescent psychopathology and mental health; cognitive-behavioral therapy for children and adolescents; psychiatric and behavioral outcomes among high risk children and adolescents; the use of longitudinal research methodologies; treatment development and implementation for high risk youth; school-based mental health care and evaluation; and clinical interviewing, assessment, and psychiatric diagnosis.
