My vision embodies the classical philosophy of the university as a place where individuals come to develop critical skills and to gain knowledge. As a classroom facilitator, my goal is to design and constantly redesign the curriculum to stimulate students to learn in an active manner that demands their personal involvement with the subject matter and continually challenges their critical thinking and communication skills. I strive to create an environment of inquiry, reflection and thoughtful communication that will be of use to each student throughout his/her personal and professional life.
I enter the classroom with the understanding that we are all students. I am on a journey with my students, and I am ever reminded that I have as much to learn from them as they do from me. I believe that our relationship should create a space where we feel ‘safe’ to challenge each other, where we demonstrate mutual respect for each other, and where we learn from each other. I strive for a partnership through which we join our knowledge, engage our field of study, and deepen our understanding of the world around us.
