Program Description:

The Master of Education (Teacher Leadership Track) program can be taken on a full-time or part-time basis. The program is aligned with the North Carolina Advanced Competency Standards and the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. The program is oriented toward improving results in teaching practice, as well as gaining critical knowledge, skills, and dispositions in action research, professional development, leadership and working successfully with diverse learners in middle and secondary schools.

Application Process:

  • Graduate School Bulletin Admissions Requirements.
  • You will need one official transcript from every college and university you have attended, including UNCG.
  • Three recommendations are required from former professors and employers. These can be completed online or submitted in sealed envelopes.
  • A Residency Statement is required for applicants claiming North Carolina residency.
  • Applicants must take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and submit their test scores to the Graduate School. These should not be more than five years old.
  • Applicants for this program are required to submit a personal statement and a copy of an updated resume.
  • All of the above application materials listed above must be received by the Graduate School no later than March 1st for admission to the next Fall cohort beginning every August. Failure to meet this deadline will very likely mean you will have to wait for another year to begin this program.

Frequently Asked Questions

I haven't taught for two years. Can I start my Masters?

If you have taught for at least one year and are currently employed you can apply. You will need to have completed two full years of teaching by the time you complete your Masters Degree program. You can also take up to three courses through VISIONS before you are formally accepted. See the graduate school website.

How quickly can I complete the program?

Because some courses are not offered every year the answer to this question depends on when you start the program. If you are a part-time student taking one or two courses a semester, it will take you a minimum of 6 semesters (Spring and Fall and Summer School).

Is this program available online?

A few classes may be available online or partially online, but there is no guarantee of this.
