Spanish Education Concentration
Classroom Practice Track
Designed for:
Students with an undergraduate degree (or high proficiency) in Spanish who wish to pursue a combined masters degree in education and teaching licensure for Spanish.
Program Description:
The Master of Education (Classroom Practice Track) program can be taken on a full-time or part-time basis. The program is aligned with the North Carolina Advanced Competency Standards and the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. A culminating portfolio based on these sets of standards is required. The program is oriented toward preparing candidates to teach Spanish in a K-12 context as well as gaining critical knowledge, developing professionally, and working successfully with diverse learners.
Application Process:
- Applicants can obtain an application from the Graduate School.
- Two official transcripts are required from every college and university that you attended.
- Three recommendations are also required, and should be submitted in sealed envelopes.
- A Residency Statement is required for applicants claiming North Carolina residency.
- Applicants must take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and submit their test scores to the Graduate School.
- Applicants are required to submit a personal statement and a copy of an updated resume.
Pre-requisites/Co-requisites:
- Bachelor's degree in Spanish or related field
- High proficiency in Spanish*
- HEA 341 or equivalent
- TED 535
- TED 120
* Applicants will be asked to submit (1) 5-minute conversational audiotape in Spanish, (2) 500-word essay/personal staatement in Spanish, and (3) sample of formal writing in Spanish from an advanced course.

- TED 638 (3) Seminar in Secondary Education, or TED 622, or approved substitute
- TED 680a (6) Clinical Experience in Teaching
- TED 680b (3) Clinical Experience in Teaching
Licensure Process:
- Successful completion of Program of Study
- Successful completion of Technology Portfolio
- Successful completion of Advanced Competency Portfolio
- Acceptable scores on required PRAXIS exams
- Application for licensure through UNCG Licensure Officer
