(Survey taken by Dr. Askew, Professor at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and Research Assistant, Michael McMillan)
Purpose
The following excerpts are selections that have been chosen to be surveyed to determine a four year course of study of euphonium excerpts for an undergraduate student. Once these selections have been classified by order of importance, difficulty, and quality, they will used to design this course of study of standard excerpts that should be studied while completing the undergraduate degree program. This survey will provide euphonium music majors a plan of study with a broad range of musical experiences from which they can draw upon.
Method
The following list contains the works to rate. The list includes title, composer, and arranger, if available, of each work for clarification and quick referencing. The first 25 selections are marches. Numbers 26 to 100 are Concert or Orchestral selections to be rated on a 1 – 5 scale in order of difficulty (1 being most difficult). If you think that any of these 100 compositional works should be considered a standard, place an X in that box to identify its importance in this study.
