Admission Requirements

  • Completed application;forms available online at www.uncg. edu/grs/or by calling 336/334-5596.Admission deadlines are February 15th and September 15th each year.
  • Acceptable Graduate Record Exam scores within last 5 years.
  • Three professional references.
  • Of?cial transcripts from each college or university attended.
  • Current unrestricted registered nurse licensure or validated credentials by CGFNS for international applicants.
  • Satisfactory TOEFL scores for international applicants.
  • A 300-word statement of research goals in doctoral program related to promotion of optimal health for ethnic minorities, women,children,Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited program.
  • A 3.0 or greater GPA on a 4.0 scale on previous graduate work.
  • An interview with Graduate Nursing Faculty for selected applicants.

Prior to enrollment in classes,doctoral nursing students will be required to complete the UNCG health history form and Parts A and B of the immunization schedule (with the exception of the meningococcal vaccine) and forward these documents to the Student Health Service.

Program Requirements

  • Minimum of 57 credits for PhD program in Nursing.
  • A minor is optional.
  • Grades in all courses must be a B or better to be applied to program.
  • Residence requirement of two consecutive semesters of at least six credits per semester.
  • Oral and preliminary exams required after three- fourths of coursework.
  • Documentation of RN licensure,CPR certi?cation, current liability insurance coverage as speci?ed by the School of Nursing,and a criminal background check prior to enrollment in practicum or research experiences in educational or healthcare agencies.
  • Seven year time limit for completion of doctoral nursing program.

Tuition and Fees

  • NC Resident for 12 semester hours $1760
  • Nonresident for 12 semester hours $7289

Tuition and fees are subject to change by action of the NC Legislature and the UNC Board of Governors.
