Paige Hall Smith is associate professor of Public Health Education at the University of North Carolina (UNC). Beginning in 2005 Dr. Smith became Director of the Center for Women´s Health and Wellness (CWHW) at UNCG.
She received her doctorate in health behavior and health education, with a minor in epidemiology, from the UNC Chapel Hill in 1993.
As director of UNCG´s Women´s Health and Wellness research center, Dr. Smith´s work focuses on developing an interdisciplinary and collaborative research and scholarship program on women´s health. She is currently involved in several collaborative projects that seek to improve health, wellness and quality of life of women.
She was also the Linda Arnold Carlisle Professor of Women´s and Gender Studies for 2004-2006. This professorship launched her research on the connections between breastfeeding and feminism and the Breastfeeding and Feminism Symposium. For this research Dr. Smith is conducting in-depth qualitative interviews with breastfeeding advocates, lactation consultants, women’s rights advocates, and breastfeeding mothers to identify a feminist-based approach to breastfeeding.
