Curriculum Vitae

Paige Hall Smith is associate professor of Public Health Education at the University of North Carolina (UNC). Beginning in 2005 Dr. Smith became Director of the Center for Women's Health and Wellness (CWHW) at UNCG. She received her doctorate in health behavior and health education, with a minor in epidemiology, from the UNC Chapel Hill in 1993.

As director of UNCG's Women's Health and Wellness research center, Dr. Smith's work focuses on developing an interdisciplinary and collaborative research and scholarship program on women's health. She is currently involved in several collaborative projects that seek to improve health, wellness and quality of life of women.

She was also the Linda Arnold Carlisle Professor of Women's and Gender Studies for 2004-2006. This professorship launched her research on the connections between breastfeeding and feminism and the Breastfeeding and Feminism Symposium. For this research Dr. Smith is conducting in-depth qualitative interviews with breastfeeding advocates, lactation consultants, women's rights advocates, and breastfeeding mothers to identify a feminist-based approach to breastfeeding.
