Pre-Engineering at UNC Greensboro

The pre-engineering program at UNCG is certified by the Subcommittee on Engineering Transfer. This means that the three engineering schools in The University of North Carolina system will accept students who have completed the pre-engineering program at UNCG with an acceptable grade point average. The Subcommittee on Engineering Transfer is a subcommittee of the Joint Committee On College Transfer Students. The Joint Committee is a state-wide committee representing all the colleges and universities in the state, public and private.

The pre-engineering advisors are
Dr. Promod Pratap [e-mail (prpratap@uncg.edu)]
Dr. Paul Duvall [e-mail (duvallp@uncg.edu)]

Prospective UNCG students interested in the pre-engineering program should contact one of the advisors before they register for classes. Students currently enrolled at UNCG in the pre-engineering program should maintain contact with one of these advisors and always see him before registering for the next term.

The pre-engineering program is described in the UNCG Undergraduate Bulletin (Click on the Undergraduate Bulletin link and then click on Special Academic Programs to find the link to pre-engineering). Important issues of which the student should be aware include:

1) UNCG does not offer any engineering courses. However, the time spent at UNCG does allow students to complete their physics, chemistry, and calculus courses, as well as most of the humanities and social science course requirements. These requirements vary from one engineering school to another, so it is important for the student to meet with one of the pre-engineering advisors listed above.

2) Students should complete the pre-engineering curriculum before they transfer; otherwise, they may have to repeat some courses at the engineering school.

3) Admission to the engineering schools is not automatic. It is the responsibility of students to make contact with and apply for admission to the engineering school of their choice in a timely manner.
