University Registrar's Office

Loan Deferments

The University Registrar's Office processes loan deferment requests for currently enrolled students with financial aid. It is the student's responsibility to file a deferment request with the University Registrar's Office, as described below. Deferments can be processed for past and current semesters only.

Fall/Spring Academic Semesters

Students with financial aid should complete loan deferment requests for each academic semester they are enrolled to avoid being prematurely billed for their loans. Students may bring a form from their lender or can fill out an In-School Deferment Request provided by the University Registrar's Office.

The University Registrar's Office sends to the National Student Clearinghouse an electronic file of student enrollment three times a semester, which the Clearinghouse uses to verify enrollment for lenders, banks, and outside agencies. The Clearinghouse, not the University, notifies these agencies of a student's enrollment status. In-School Deferment Requests are processed and mailed to the Clearinghouse on a regular basis. A pre-written memo accompanies the paper deferments.
