School of Education Diploma Recognition Ceremony

To confirm your participation in the School of Education Diploma Recognition Ceremony, send an RSVP email to Angel S. Biegert (acsolomo@uncg.edu) immediately!

Degree candidates please report to Fleming Gym (HHP Building) at 9am Saturday, May 17th wearing your cap and gown. Student marshals will help you line-up in alphabetical order by degree. Also, you will be given a 3x5 index card on which to write your name as you would like it announced when you walk across the stage.



ACADEMIC REGALIA

The deadline for ordering your regalia is March 28, 2008. For details, please visit the campus bookstore or call 336-334-5563.
Also, please note the following regalia specifications:

  • The Bachelor's gown is distinguished by long, pointed sleeves. A black tassel should be worn on the right side of the cap prior to the ceremony. Honor graduates (undergraduates with a 3.5 or higher GPA) may also request a gold honor cord when ordering their regalia.
  • The Master's gown includes a hood six-inches in length with a three-inch border in either light blue (education) or lemon (library science). A black tassel should be worn on the left side of the cap.
  • The Doctoral hood has a rounded base and is four-feet in length with a five-inch border in light blue. A black tassel should be worn on the left side of the cap.

  • Undergraduate (cap, gown, tassel): $48.98
  • Masters (cap, gown, tassel, hood): $84.98
  • Doctoral gown rental: $72.98
  • Doctoral gown purchase: $680.00
  • Doctoral tam purchase: $71.00
  • Doctoral hood purchase: $138.00


ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

Upon graduation, you will be welcomed into the UNCG Alumni Association.


CEREMONY DETAILS

The ceremony will begin promptly at 10am and last approximately 2 hours. The ceremony will include a processional, guest speaker, recognition of each graduate on stage, undergraduate tassel turning, teaching awards, singing of the alma mater, and recessional. Printed programs will be distributed in the lobby.


SCHOOL OF EDUCATION RECEPTION

The ceremony will be followed by a School of Education reception in the HHP building – Exact location within the building to be announced. Exact location of the reception will be printed on the back cover of the program. Graduates and their guests are invited to attend this reception immediately following the ceremony.


DIPLOMAS

When your name is called during the ceremony, you will walk across the stage, shake hands with Dean Schunk, and receive a diploma cover containing graduation related information. Your official diploma will be mailed to your permanent address a few weeks after graduation.

TICKETS AND GUESTS

Tickets will be issued this year. More information will be coming soon. You must respond, through email, with the requested information be eligible to receive tickets.


INVITATIONS

Invitations may be ordered through Balfour, or any printer of your choice.


PARKING

Free parking will be available in the campus Walker parking deck located directly across the street from the Health and Human Performance (HHP) Building on Walker Avenue. Handicapped parking is available on the west side of the HHP Building, near the recreational center – first come, first serve basis.


PHOTOS

Family and friends may take photos during the ceremony. A professional photographer will also be present. A representative from Photo Specialties will contact you a few weeks after the ceremony regarding the purchase of official graduation photos.


SPECIAL SERVICES

Marshals wearing gold corsages with ribbon will be stationed throughout HHP Building to assist graduates and their guests. Reserved seating will be available for guests with restricted mobility. Reserved seating and an interpreter for the deaf and hard of hearing will also be available.

UNIVERSITY COMMENCEMENT

In addition to the School of Education diploma ceremony, you are encouraged to participate in Commencement on Friday, May 16th at the Greensboro Coliseum. Commencement begins at 10am and lasts approximately 2½ hours. This event is not ticketed, therefore you may have as many guests attend as you want.
