Digital Media Production

Video Production

The UTLC has a TV studio with professional lighting, sound, and video equipment. The studio is available for interviews, small panel discussions, dramatic vignettes, etc. The UTLC also has field recording capabilities using digital Mini-DV cameras. Field tapes may be combined with studio production in the creation of edited programs. UTLC staff can provide production engineering and assistance in the scripting and planning of these projects. The video recording of any campus sponsored event or speaker is subject to production charges. UTLC Video Production equipment is only operated by professional staff members.

Audio/Video Editing

The UTLC has a non-linear video editing system and video capture equipment for producing video and video clips. Audio editing equipment is also available. The UTLC can work with faculty to produce video for inclusion in classroom presentations and for web delivery, and for standard playback. Video and audio can be produced on DVD, CD, or as digital files. Video and audio format conversion is offered. UTLC Audio / Video Editing equipment is only operated by professional staff members.

Duplication

The UTLC can copy videotapes in NTSC (USA standard) and PAL/SECAM (European) formats. Personnel of the UTLC will provide these services for instructional purposes within the limits of the copyright laws. The faculty member or department will be responsible for the cost of the tape and/or DVD. The UTLC cannot copy an out-of-region DVD to create an in-region-DVD and we cannot copy any “copy protected” DVD. The UTLC will create DVDs from digital video materials originally produced by the UTLC, and will capture video clips for use in distance learning.

Cost

Except for videotaping of speakers, there is no labor charge to faculty for producing materials to be used in a UNCG scheduled class. There is a minimal charge for materials. Labor charges for non-instructional projects average about one-third of the fee charged by commercial vendors. If your department or grant is paying for any item please bring an authorized, signed interdepartmental invoice (Banfin 33) and grant number when you schedule work. Students will be assisted, as time permits, with a charge for labor and materials.
