GREENSBORO, N.C. Another year, another record-breaking enrollment at UNCG.

For the ninth year in a row, the university has enrolled a record number of undergraduates, with 14,664 students coming to campus this fall. That’s a 10 percent increase compared to the 13,453 students from fall 2008.

The fall 2009 freshman class numbers 2,510 students and 1,548 students transferred into the university, both record numbers. Incoming freshman had an average GPA of 3.58 and an average SAT score of 1032. A third of incoming freshman are minority students; 7.2 percent are from out of state.

“Our robust enrollment – especially our record number of new freshmen and transfer students – confirms that a UNCG education is highly valued by an increasing number of students,” said Dr. J. Alan Boyette, vice provost for academic affairs.

UNCG also hit a high mark this fall with graduate student enrollment, welcoming 3,838 graduate students. That figure tops the previous high of 3,807 students from the fall of 2006.

The university’s total “headcount” enrollment for fall 2009 is 18,502 students, up 9.35 percent over fall 2008. That figure also includes 967 distance learners.  In addition, UNCG also serves 2,781 participants in iSchool, the state's program that allows high school students to take college-level courses online.
