Top 10 Reasons to Live on Campus

When students live on campus, they meet each other, study together, and attend UNC Greensboro programs and events together. Most of all, they support and motivate each other. First-year Spartans live in traditional housing because it is the perfect place for incoming students to connect with other newcomers.

Campus housing is close to events, classes, faculty, and to academic and support services. You’ll be within walking distance to classrooms, the Jackson Library, the Elliott University Center and bookstore, a variety of food locations, and campus recreational facilities.

Typically, students who live on campus do better academically than students who don’t. They also stay in college and graduate at a higher rate than students who don’t live on campus.

The residence halls are locked all day, every day. Residents must scan their Spartan ID cards to gain access to their assigned buildings. HRL professional and student staff members live in the buildings and check the buildings’ interiors. Along with campus police officers, they also check the buildings’ exterior entrances.

You can join the Hall Council, the Residence Hall Association (RHA), and the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH). You can also join the HRL staff in a paid undergraduate position. See the HRL Employment webpage and Student Leadership webpage for more.

Just by living on campus, you will learn problem-solving skills. You will learn about social justice, as well as sustainable practices to follow. You will be encouraged to take personal responsibility for your hall community, the campus community, and the Greensboro community. And you will have the support of trained staff to help you along the way. You will also become educated about ways you can volunteer on campus and in the community.

Caring, trained, and professional staff care about each student’s experience at UNCG. Staff members also provide resources, support, and programming to enhance your college experience.

Your housing charges will be included on your University bill. There are no deposits or surprise charges. Services such as high-speed wireless internet, HRL Streaming, water and electricity, and other extras are included in this total cost.

You can work or play on your devices anywhere in the residence halls at no extra cost. Wireless is available in your room, in a study lounge, in a parlor. You can save on mobile data charges. We have technology staff members in HRL ready to help.
